Video Accelerator for YouTube

Download Video Accelerator for YouTube

One of the worst parts of all online video playback is the wait. I generally have an incredibly fast connection available and yet I'm still waiting for files to playback. YouTube is one of the worst offenders because their playback is designed to feed you small file chunks as you need them. Video Accelerator for YouTube solves this problem by placing multiple requests for file parts, getting files to load and playback faster than they would without Video Accelerator for YouTube. By using this app, you spend more time watching video and less time waiting to watch video. A built-in search makes it easy to find videos from your desktop and bookmarking makes it easy to find videos you liked for a second viewing later. The premise is the same as other download accelerators - open more requests for the same file and get the whole thing faster. As of this writing, Video Accelerator for YouTube only speeds up video playback times for Windows XP and Windows 2000, but Vista support should be coming soon. [Windows 2k/XP $0.00]

ActiveShare launched

YouTube announced the addition of a few new features overnight. Here’s a summary:

Most importantly, YouTube has added an Active Sharing feature, to let you see who’s watching your video, and videos that other users are watching. The last six videos you watched display on your Channel page, and when someone visits one of these videos they may see your name listed in the “who’s watching” box. This history tracking feature can be turned off. Additionally, you can rearrange the order of your favorites videos, and a module that automatically approves comments from friends but requires approval from everyone else.

Any user’s Channel can now be filtered by Most Recent, Most Viewed, and Most Discussed, and gone more lax with comments limits, meaning you only have to type in a CAPTCHA once per login session. You can also unblock users, and browse Partner channels by Most Viewed, or through an alphabetical listing.

The Active Sharing feature may freak out a few users here and there, but it seems to be a pretty nifty way of finding more users to connect with on the site, and have easy access to the videos you’ve just viewed. In other recent YouTube news, they are testing (in closed sessions) a pre-roll and post-roll ad system for videos.

Put YouTube Videos on MySpace Profiles

MySpace made a few changes to the way they handle YouTube videos that makes the process of adding video to your MySpace Profile page a little easier. At the same time, it's a slightly more confusing process than my previous method for adding YouTube videos to your MySpace blog. MySpace automatically changes the YouTube video embedding code to fit MySpace requirements, so you need to make sure you add the autoplay information in the right spot if you want a video to start automatically on your MySpace profile home page.

To add a YouTube video to your MySpace profile page, make sure you're logged into MySpace. Click on the Edit Profile link next to your photo.

For this example, I'll add a video at the bottom of my About Me section. First copy the embed code from the YouTube video page.

Next, scroll down to the bottom of your About Me section and paste the code you just copied from YouTube.

If you don't need the video to start playing automatically, you are finished at this point. Click the Save All Changes button at the top of the page and your video will appear on your profile.

To make the YouTube video start automatically, you need to do one more step. Locate the section of the YouTube that says value="http://www.youtube.com/..." where ... is the rest of the URL. Before the closing quotation mark add &autoplay=1 to the end of the link. Now click Save All Changes and the video will be on the front page of your MySpace profile, starting automatically.

Add YouTube Videos to MySpace blog

First click in the box in the About This Video section where YouTube has the Embed code. This automatically selects all the code in the box.

Either use Ctrl+C on the keyboard or right click this box and select Copy to copy the code.

After logging into MySpace, click on the link to your Blog below your profile photo.

On the Blog page, click the link to Post New Blog on the left hand side.

Add a Subject for your post. Click the link that says If you can't input your Blog, click here. This is an important step because it keeps MySpace from messing with the YouTube Embed code.

Paste the Embed code from YouTube in the Body section of your blog post by either using Ctrl+P or right clicking and choosing Paste from the menu. Delete everything before

You should only have the equivalent of what's highlighted in the screenshot below:

Click Preview & Post to make sure the video is there, then click the Post Blog Button.
